Welcome to the
Walter Biggs Collection.

Over the past couple of years, I've purchased a few original paintings by Walter Biggs. Upon doing a little research, I discovered that these paintings may have been published as illustrations in magazines from past  decades. Consequently, this early research began a general interest in finding those magazines that contained images of the paintings that I had purchased. After many hours of going down numerous rabbit holes, I was able to locate and acquire those magazines.

From this original search, I became more and more interested in the art of Mr. Biggs, partly because he spent his childhood and much of his adult life residing in Salem, Virginia where I have made my home for over 50 years. So, what started as a general interest in acquiring a few magazines led to a hobby of learning more about this extraordinary artist, to later becoming an obsession to find and purchase all the magazines, books and publications that contained the images of his paintings. After hundreds and hundreds of hours of searching over the past year and a half, I have identified and purchased approximately 500 magazines, 30+ first edition books, and numerous publications that contain one or more images of Mr. Biggs' paintings, the earliest of which was published in a 1905 issue of Young's magazine.

The art published in these magazines / books have been assembled in this web site to allow the public to see over 1,000 works of art by Mr. Biggs created over a 60-year period. Without question, I know there are published illustrations and original art painted by Walter Biggs that I have not discovered and therefore they are not displayed in this website. However, my search continues with hopes of finding these undiscovered works to later be displayed on this site that is dedicated to what I believe is one of the most renowned artists of the 20th Century, and a beloved son of Salem, Virginia.

With regards,
